I have written on this persistent crisis in our Mancipia newsletter in 2007 and linked to other articles elsewhere on our website. Solutions have been proffered but have never gone beyond lab reports. Perhaps nature will take care of itself in time when it comes to man’s abuse of it, but that presupposes the end of using poisonous pesticides and the dumping of hazardous waste in our waterways. The following report from Catholic Online is an update on the bee problem.
Catholic Online: Two teams of researchers in published studies suggest that low levels of a common pesticide can have significant effects on bee colonies. French researchers say that from their experiments, they reached the conclusion that the chemicals fog honeybee brains, making it harder for them to find their way home. Scientists in Britain suggest the pesticides keep bumblebees from supplying their hives with enough food to produce new queens. More on this report here.
