I Was There

[Dedicated to Rev. Michael A. Jarecki]

I was there when it was time to baptize a new member,
Also before Mass to help you vest when you couldn’t remember.
I was there bright and early for you to absolve me of my weakness.
You were always there night or day for better or worse in health or in sickness.
I was there Father to watch you fade,
As we marched around for Our Lady’s parade.
When passing out the bread of life I was at your side,
At sick calls more then once you asked me for a ride.
Year after year we would hear about our Queen
There you stood strong, as the seasons changed their scene.
How can I forget our father son like intimacies,
As we shared our problems over butterscotch candies.
But, I think what I cherish the most,
Was to help you with the words over the host.
I was there while the chalice was in your feeble hand,
Waiting to repeat the words as I shuttered and gave my command.
Our Father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name,
Because of Father Michael, I’ll never be the same.
Hail Mary full of grace, the Lord is with thee
Thank you for giving us a priest like Father Jarecki
Only you know good sir what you did for me,
Hidden for now but wait until eternity.
Over the thousands and thousands of Hail Mary’s did you say;
Who would ever have thought that I’d be there that day.
Pray for us now and at the hour of our death. Amen
I was there at your side, gladly would I do it again.
