In Mexico It’s the Church vs the Drug Lords

It is a battle for souls.  If priests in Mexico speak out to their parishioners and warn them to stay away from drugs they receive death threats. Some priests and prelates, such as the Archbishop of Durango, are stronger than others.  It appears that there may have to be martyrs if the Church is to win this battle. Drugs, however, are not the cause of the problems but the symptom growing out of a moral laxity that follows a loss or weakening of the Faith.  The liberalism of the clergy in Latin America, especially in the days of “liberation theology,” has produced a generation that is religiously illiterate.  They never learned the catechism or traditional devotions. It’s the same in the US only drug lords are not overseeing our pulpits. There are other lords doing so, as with the issue of abortion, same-sex “marriage” and freedom of speech. I think I’d rather deal with the drug lords.
