Jonathan Pageau on ‘Rumpelstiltskin: Credit and Resurrection’

According to his YouTube Channel, “Jonathan Pageau is a French Canadian icon carver, public speaker and YouTuber exploring the symbolic patterns that underlie our experience of the world, how these patterns emerge and come together, manifesting in religion, art and in popular culture. He’s also the editor of the Orthodox Arts Journal and host of the Symbolic World blog and podcast.”

For my latest Reconquest, I interviewed our 1st and 2nd grade teacher, Sister Mary Joseph on the subject, “Saving or Slaying Your Child’s Moral Imagination.” Jonathan Pageau’s name and Rumpelstiltskin both came up in our discussion, so I thought it would be good to embed one of his videos on our site. According to Pageau,

This fascinating fairy tale [Rumpelstiltskin] has a lot to tell us about money, power, credit, turning death into glory, and resurrection.

One last note: As mentioned in the Reconquest episode, Mr. Pageau is Orthodox, although he is neither anti-Catholic nor anti-Western, as can be seen from his praise of much Western Catholic art and literature. Not knowing anything about the man’s personal history, I do not know how this French Canadian fell into the Eastern Schism. Please pray for his conversion (or reversion, as the case may be) to unity with the Holy See.
