Says the British journalist and author, “SEVERAL millennia were required to build European civilisation but its impending destruction has been the work of just a few years, carried out by a cadre of irresponsible, unpatriotic and deluded politicians led by German Chancellor Angela Merkel.”
His words ought to be pondered.
But a weakness can be seen in his thinking:
As the social revolution accelerates traditional values of democracy, freedom and solidarity will be replaced by conflict, sectarianism, oppression and intolerance.
But England’s — and Europe’s — real “traditional values” were Catholic.
I would argue that the cutting off of Albion from Christendom via the Anglican schism, then the opening to various heresies (e.g., Calvinism) and errors (e.g., social contract theory, Malthusianism), and consequent pillaging of monasteries and other charitable institutions that created large groups of unprovided-for poor people and class strife, then mercenary capitalism and the predatory habits of monied oligarchs, who inevitably pull the levers of any “democracy” — all paved the way for this.
England, as a nation, rejected the res publica Christiana that the Church made Europe into by rejecting the unity of the Church. When she became an empire, she did so as a Protestant empire, subject to the vicissitudes of an ever-changing creed, which was, in turn, subject to the concupiscence of man and the malice of demons.
The same may be said, mutatis mutandis, for other European nations, which have sold their birthright for a mess of liberal socialist pottage.
That such a nation would virtually self-destruct by opening itself to domination by an opportunistic and surly Islam is no great mystery.
Let us pray that England will once again become “Mary’s Dowry,” and return to her Catholic self. It’s the only way to save what has been lost.
