Upon receiving the 2013 Distinguished Administrative Woman in Higher Education Award presented by the Connecticut American Council on Education (ACE) Women’s Network, the Rev. Paul Fitzgerald, Jesuit Fairfield University senior vice president for academic affairs said, “I am very pleased and proud the committee singled out Dean Robbin Crabtree. Robbin’s service to Fairfield University’s Jesuit mission is exemplary in so many ways. She demonstrates on a daily basis her deep understanding of, and commitment to, Jesuit ideals of intellectual rigor, integrative ways of thinking, knowing and creating, and a willing spirit of civic engagement and social responsibility in the education of all our students for the sake of human dignity and social justice. She does all this with passion, with joy and with a generosity of spirit that is truly infectious.”
From Fairfield to Loyola Marymount University
Then, again, Loyola Marymount University President David W. Burcham, in an April 16 letter to the Board of Regents, said that criticisms of her candidacy have been “exaggerated and inaccurate.”
“Exaggerated and inaccurate”? Fact: Crabtree did consultative work for Planned Parenthood in Connecticut and for a a pro-abortion PAC called Las Adelitas in New Mexico. She has never renounced her assistance to these infamous pro-abortion groups.
Moreover, according to RenewLMU, it was Pres. Burcham himself who confirmed Dr. Crabtree’s atheism in a letter to the LMU Board of Regents on April 16.
CNA reports: Loyola Marymount University’s appointment of an atheist dean with a record of service to abortion-supporting groups suggests the university may be unable to sustain its Catholic identity, one alumni group has charged.
“The current process for attracting, qualifying, and vetting candidates for senior positions, as this appointment demonstrates, is inadequate to preserve the Catholic character of Loyola Marymount University for very much longer,” the group RenewLMU said April 28. Full report is here.
