Saint Placid (541)

This was the notable Benedictine monk who, two years before the death of Saint Benedict himself, along with his two brothers, Saint Eutychius and Saint Victorinus, and his sister, Saint Flavia, and thirty Benedictine monks, was martyred on the Island of Sicily, in the town of Messina. These are the Benedictine protomartyrs. Saint Benedict was so proud of them that he spoke of these martyrs constantly during the two years he lived after them, until he himself went to Heaven.
