Turkish Government Refuses Pope’s Request to Allow Confiscated Church to Reopen

It is the only church in Tarsus, the birthplace of Saint Paul. Seized by the Moslem government in 1943 it was  turned it into a museum.  Despite the Holy Father’s personal petition the Turks intend to keep it a museum.

VATICAN CITY (CNS)—Despite a personal request from Pope Benedict XVI and repeated requests by Christian leaders in Turkey, the Turkish government has decided that the only church in Tarsus, the city of St. Paul’s birth, will remain a government museum.  Read more here.
