What is this country coming to? Imagine! Pro-American (sic), flag -wavin, fast-food company, McDonalds, is suspending halal Chicken McNuggets! Halal is the Islamic version of kosher, you see. No pork! None, whatsoever! And, yummy, this specially blessed meat was labeled, stored, refrigerated and cooked in halal-only areas. Imagine that! A special stove and refrigerator for halal burgers at these Michigan franchises. The fast-food giant also said it had educated employees about halal food preparation which “requires strict adherence to the process.”
“Strict adherence” mind you. Inspectors joyfully hovered over enthusiastic employees to make sure that the halal was gleefully observed to the T. Somehow confusion entered the scenario and the famous McDonalds pace was offset. Regular McNuggets were getting mixed up with halal McNuggets! Oh My! And money was being lost. All over halal kosher! Yes, you guessed it; there was a mole in the kitchen, spilling the beans. Cut one too many corners on those Big Macs when they thought no one was looking. And, the insensitive barbarians thought they could get away with it. Nice try. Well, McDonalds had to make a decision. To halal or not to halal. To bad for the McNuggets; they lost out. So did the halalist Moslems. I think that the least McDonalds could do in recompense is fly their flags at half-mast for awhile. Or, compose a song, maybe. They could call it, “The Day the McHalal Died.” Or, perhaps they could offer some discount on French fries for card-carrying Islamists. For my part, I’m happy with the pork rinds at Burger King. I have no problem with pork whatsoever; pass the bacon, thank you.
NBC News. McDonald’s elaborated in a statement about its decision: “We take into account local and dietary preferences, however these items were offered as an exception to McDonald’s national core food menu in these two restaurants only.”
McDonald’s said it was discontinuing the products to “focus on our national core menu.” Read more about this classic example of might-makes-right chauvinism here.
