US Catholic Bishops Giving High Praise for Cristero Movie ‘For Greater Glory’

I went to see the movie yesterday, in Worcester, Massachusetts, at 1:00. I shall never forget it and will see it again, to be sure. Perhaps it was because of the noon showing that so few people were there, eight was all. I have never seen a more inspiring Catholic movie, after the Passion of Christ. This is history. The characters were all actual Cristero heroes. The villains were real characters as well. The Communists had only taken over Russia less than ten years before their agents, with Plutarco Calles as their leaders, took over Mexico and inflicted a regime just as deadly, just as anti-Catholic. I hope to write a review of the movie soon, after another viewing.

Catholic Online: “To describe this film as stirring or powerful would do it a disservice,” said Most Rev. Charles J. Chaput, Archbishop of Philadelphia. “FOR GREATER GLORY is much more than an exercise in piety; it’s an extraordinary portrait of ordinary people struggling to defend their convictions. It’s among the most absorbing films by any director or movie studio that I’ve seen in the past few years.” Read more here.
