Cardinal Zen in his recent pastoral letter expressed his indignation in no uncertain terms over the Communist government’s forced convocation of bishops in the so-called Eighth National Congress of Catholic Representatives held last week. He is outraged and heart-broken, but firm in hope. The following clip is quite revealing of his inner struggle. but the whole letter is a must read for all Catholics who care about their twelve million Chinese brothers and sisters in the Faith who have to live under persecution.

I know I represent countless priests and faithful in China, of both the official and the underground communities. They are shocked, saddened, and bewildered. They wonder “What has become [of] our Church?”
