Scorecard for the Visionaries of Medjugorje

Basic Fact Sheet for the Visionaries of Medjugorje

Vicka Ivankovic-Mijatovic: the Gospa has so far confided nine secrets to her. For her, the daily apparitions have not yet stopped since June 24, 1981, according to the Visionaries of Medjugorje website.

Ivan Dragicevic: the Gospa has confided nine secrets to Ivan. The Gospa has appeared to him every day since June 24, 1981, according to the Visionaries of Medjugorje website. Since he lives six months out of the year in Boston that means the Gospa appears to him even in Boston every day for six months. (If you don’t believe me just check out the VoM website)

Mirjana Dragicevic-Soldo: On December 25, 1982, Mirjana received her tenth and final secret from the Gospa. Mirjana was the first seer to receive all ten secrets. Since that time, the Gospa only appeared to Mirjana once a year on her birthday (March 18) until August 2, 1987, when the Gospa also started appearing to Mirjana on the second day of each month. Got that? So, according to the Visionaries of Medjugorje website, Mirjana now has apparitions not only on her birthday every year (that’s special) but on the second day of every month too.

Ivanka Ivankovic-Elez: On May 7, 1985, the Gospa confided to her the last of her ten secrets. The Gospa told her in 1985 that for her entire life she will have an apparition every year on June 25. Small potatoes compared to the other seers. But she does have ten secrets, so she really can’t complain.

Jakov Colo: On September 12, 1998, the Gospa confided to him his tenth secret. Although he had daily apparitions for seventeen years (1981-1998) the Gospa now appears to Jakov only once per year on Christmas Day.  Poor Jakov is in the same boat as Ivanka.

Marija Pavlovic-Lunetti: The Gospa appeared to her for the first time on June 25, 1981. She still has apparitions every day in Italy, and is the visionary to whom the Gospa gives the public message to the world on the 25th of each month. The Gospa has confided nine secrets to her so far. “So far!”  Keep posted.

Summary of the tally of secrets:

Mirjana Dragicevic-Soldo has ten secrets, but that’s it, no more, according to the Visionaries of Medjugorje website. She was the first to get a tenth secret.

Jakov Colo’s got ten secrets too. I guess that’s it for him, too, although the website doesn’t say that exactly.

Ivanka Ivankovic-Elez has  got ten secrets, but the website says that’s it for her, no more.

Marija Pavlovic-Lunetti has received nine secrets “so far,” according to the website. So, she, Vicka and Ivan all need one more to catch up.

Since the seers can’t reveal their secrets (at least yet) we don’t know if some of them share the same secrets, or each of them has their own distinct secrets. If the latter is true, that would add up to fifty-seven different secrets.

Keep posted for further updates.

I am in the middle of reading Donal Foley’s “Medjugorje Revisited” (published by Theotokos Books), a painstaking debunking of the alleged apparitions. Beyond the “Gospa’s” apparent garrulousness, there are so many other factors that point to Medjugorje being false (whether a human hoax or positively demonic) that it is hard to see how the thing even got going. The Vision trembles; the Vision allows the seers to touch and kiss it, all the while laughing; the Vision endorses threats to the local ordinary; the Vision is silent until the visionaries start asking it questions; the Vision moves its apparitions to accommodate ecclesiastical politicking; the Vision is due to appear only three more times in 1981, then changes its mind and appears thousands more times. And that’s without getting into the heterodoxy of some of the messages attributed to the “Gospa”, or the fact that some have been edited by embarrassed supporters (example: the reference to “unbelieving Judases” being rewritten as “unbelieving Thomases”).

Excellent short treatment of the phenomenon published in Crisis Magazine in 2012:

Thank you Gustav. The “Gospa,” whoever that is, also said that all religions are pleasing to her son. I think the devil would agree with that.
