For those older friends of Saint Benedict Center, I think you will agree with me that Fred MacMurray (+1991) and the late Brother Hugh MacIsaac, M.I.C.M., who died in 1979, could have passed for twins. I was curious to see if the actor had any Scottish connection to Nova Scotia where Brother Hugh’s ancestors were from, but I found none after a quick search. I was very pleased to find out, however, in looking up MacMurray on the internet that he was a good Catholic [See here} and kept himself clean of the moral corruption endemic to Hollywood. MacMurray, as you can read in the account that follows, kept himself close to good actors, entertainers, and producers: Walt Disney, John Wayne, Bob Hope, Bing Crosby, and many others. I cannot vouch for all of the films he was in (98 in fact) but, as far as I know, they were family films, even though he reluctantly accepted a few roles where he uncharacteristically played the bad guy.
Daily Catholic 2000, Michael Vincent Boyer: Alas, Disney has gone from being the icon of family values in the entertainment industry to the harbinger of the culture of death since the passing of the baton from Walt Disney and past Disney glories to Michael Eisner and the greed and disregard for decency which has become the benchmark of Eisner’s regime. Poor Walt, he must be turning over in his grave. And so must his good and close friend, Fred MacMurray the stalwart actor born in Kankakee, Illinois on August 30, 1908 who was born to Maleta Martin and Frederick MacMurray, a concert violinist. They were a good Catholic family who saw to young Fred’s Catholic education and higher learning in music at Carroll College in Waukesha, Wisconsin. [Carroll College, however, is not Catholic, but is affiliated with the Presbyterians.] From that he went on play in a Chicago orchestra, then one in Hollywood where he first met Walt. Their bond would last a lifetime. Read short bio here.
