China: RIP Two Underground Bishops Who Suffered Total of 34 Years in Labor Camps Died This Week

Update: After reading further information from AsiaNews on the funerals of Bishop Paul Xie Tingzhe, bishop of Urumqi (Xinjiang), and that of Bishop Sylvester Li Jiantang, who died only 13 hours apart, it was explained that Bishop Li had been in labor camps, but subsequently left the underground Church and joined the government-controlled Patriotic Association. AsiaNews: Two elderly Chinese bishops, one from Taiyuan (Shanxi) and the other from Urumqi in Xinjiang, passed away on Aug. 13 and 14 respectively. Both were recognized by the Holy See. Both spent much of their younger years in forced labour camps. More here.
