Columnist Calls for Speedy Beatification of Pakistani Martyr Shahbaz Bhatti

Catholic Culture: John Allen of the National Catholic Reporter offers an interesting suggestion as to how the Holy See could dramatize the plight of Christians who die for the faith:

Here’s the idea: Beatify Shahbaz Bhatti, and do it now.

The bishops of Pakistan have already called for the beatification of Bhatti, the cabinet minister who was killed in March 2011, after he called for changes in the country’s blasphemy law. Allen argues that a quick beatification, waiving the usual delays, would “shine a powerful spotlight on the harrowing realities of 21st-century martyrdom.” Link to article here.
