Yesterday marked the two hundredth year since Argentina won its independence from a Spain which was under Napoleonic occupation. I am not justifying the revolution, which may or may not have been justified (consider that Napoleon was an avid Mason, even appointing his four brothers to head four different lodges), I am just recording the historical fact. Rorate Caeli website has an interesting piece commemorating the occasion by way of a unusual tribute to Catholic General Manuel Belgrano, who fought for the cause. There is a picture, leading into the tribute, of the general presenting his military baton in 1812 to the Virgin of Mercy, naming her General of the Argentine Army (1812). Viva San Jago y possumus! Did you know that the full name of the capital Buenos Aires is “City of the Most Holy Trinity in the Port of Saint Mary of Buenos Aires”? And what was this unusual tribute? Read and see.

Argentina is annihilating their opponents in the world cup. Argentina is plausibly going to take it all, I sympathize with whomever they’re playing next!
