Millions Face Starvation in Zimbabwe

Take a minute and think about the shuddering reality of what is happening in this African country. Almost half of its thirteen million people are starving to death.  The people are so desperate that they are mixing cow dung with the only scraps of food they have left in order to stretch the little they have.  Caritas International is doing what they can to bring food in, but the organization says there are just too many to reach. Let us pray for these poor people. Let us not forget them while we prepare for Christmas.  For the one million Catholics in ZImbabwe Christmas can only be a dream, the reality they face is a horribly painful death. May they die in the state of grace and have their Christmas in heaven. Pray, too, that their priests may be strong and assist the dying, hear their confessions, and baptize the babies.

CNA reports: A Caritas survey in October found 70 to 90 percent of households going hungry and the remainder on the brink of starvation. At least 5.1 million people are facing starvation out of a population of 13 million people. Additionally, nearly 14,000 cases of Cholera have been reported. Full report here.
