These are the brothers that ran my high school in Newark, NJ. Although founded in Ireland, the brothers at my school were a mix of many nationalities. For the most part the teachers I had from the order seemed to be good men, but not one of them spoke about our mission to become saints. All we “learned” in so-called religion class was some sort of gelatinous social gospel. I learned from others many years later that these brothers had a little clique of homosexual perverts among them. What a waste! And my poor father worked two jobs to put us through Catholic schools.
Catholic Culture: Less than two weeks after the North American province of his community filed for bankruptcy, the head of the Irish Christian Brothers has told Catholic News Services that the future of his order “looks bleak, even hopeless.” More on this here.
