The following story is current and all too real. The brutality of the war in Uganda perpetrated by the Lord’s Resistance Army is almost beyond belief. Forty seminarians abducted at midnight, some beaten to death, the rest forced to be soldiers, trained to kill, torture, and rape. Stephen did none of these things and by a miracle he was able to escape. He is back in the seminary.
Zenit reports: A young Ugandan who is now studying for the priesthood barely escaped after being abducted and forced to become a child soldier. Aid to the Church in Need, which is actively working to help the estimated 30,000 child soldiers in Uganda return home, reported on the story of this seminarian, called “Stephen.” Stephen was 16 and studying at the minor seminary in the Gulu Archdiocese when he was abducted along with 40 other young men by the rebel group, the Lord’s Resistance Army.
