The United States, Israel, and other players have unsuccessfully attempted to take out the Bashar al-Assad regime in Syria for more than a decade.
Al-Assad is gratefully supported by Christians, who consider him their protector from the Salafist Sunni fanatics who have been used as assets by the US and Israel. While they have been framed as freedom fighting “rebels,” the “freedom” they want is the liberty to impose Sharia Law in a state currently run by a secularist government.
