Thomas More College on Pilgrimage

On the weekend of September 23, 2011, thirteen Thomas More College students ventured forth to walk the 62-mile pilgrimage from Lake George to the Shrine of Our Lady of the North American Martyrs. In its sixteenth year, the annual Pilgrimage for Restoration, organized by the National Coalition of Clergy and Laity, is a spiritual journey of the faithful to the place where Saints Isaac Jogues, … More →

US Catholic Magazine Supports Blasphemy of Intercommunion With Protestants

Nothing worse than the lukewarm pretender. How true it is that the average Catholic (priests included as one blog commenter witnessed) would take the bread at a Protestant funeral, or wedding service, without a second thought. It’s all about human respect and not wanting to offend the liberals and non-Catholic family or friends.  It’s all about the ego . . .

On the Feast of St. Luke, Great Story About 11 Year-Old Lucas Kramer

Deacon Greg Kandra has posted an amazing article that he received from his brother-in-law about an 11 year-old home-schooled genius named Lucas Kramer. Lucas has aspirations for the priesthood.  “. . .  the one thing that I guess is really important in all I do is just try to do what God would want me to do always,” the boy told an interviewer. Then, the … More →

Buchanan Turns Apocalyptic

Matt Drudge has the scoop on Pat Buchanan’s new book, SUICIDE OF A SUPERPOWER, which asks the ominous question, “Will America Survive to 2025?” Soon to be published against the backdrop of the OWS protests (the angry left’s response to the Tea Party), the book has material enough, it would seem, to cause us national jitters. Supernatural hope aside — and yes, that’s better than … More →

Archbishop Gomez: ‘Dispel the Darkness of Unbelief’

LA’s Archbishop José Gomez speaks a language we are unaccustomed to hearing from that cathedra. I don’t mean Spanish. Note the italics. Los Angeles, Calif., Oct 13, 2011 / 06:25 am (CNA/EWTN News).- Hispanic Catholic theology and ministry should work to recover the “sense of wonder and mystery” that the first missionaries to America experienced, Archbishop José H. Gomez of Los Angeles said Oct. 11. … More →

Father Michael Rodriguez Hits the Jackpot

Father Michael Rodriguez, the manly, priestly, zealous Mexican cleric of the El Paso Diocese, has given an interview to Michael Matt. It’s a little peek into the steely soul of a staunch alter-Christus whose defense of marriage has brought him much publicity and a storm of hatred from the enemies of the Church. In a very matter-of-fact way, Father Rodriguez refers positively to “the quest … More →

Zimbabwe’s Mugabe: Catholic Apologist?

The Philosopher has no dog in the race of Zimbabwean politics. (You can all breathe a sigh of relief now.) Therefore, agreeing with President Robert Mugabe on a religious point need not be taken as an endorsement of a man considered to be dictatorial. When the Druid who heads the C of E complained to the African strongman about some Anglican-on-Anglican violence associated with a … More →

Rod Dreher on Homophile Indoctrination

In light of the first couple of paragraphs of my recent Ad Rem, this piece by Rod Dreher piqued my interest. Without the slightest overstatement, Dreher exposes the agenda behind “anti-bullying” measures. It’s really a way to indoctrinate children into believing that the unnatural is a good thing. Of particular worth are the shocking admissions Dreher cites from a homosexual activist, whose candor on the … More →

September 29, Saint Michael the Seraph, One of the Seven Who Stand Before the Throne

Yes, that is my opinion and also the opinion of many of the fathers of the Church.  As far as I know, among the doctors, only Saint Thomas argued against Saint Michael being a seraph. The Prince of the heavenly hosts is not only in the highest angelic choir, but he is also, along with Gabriel and Raphael, one of the seven who stand before … More →

Woman Gets $144 Ticket for Allowing ‘Cultic’ Activity in Rented Canadian Facility

Cultic is a strong word that has taken on a sinister meaning far from its original liturgical sense, which was the Latin word for “worship.” If there were something sinister going on in the facility, or diabolic,  like a pagan ceremony or black mass, then the fine is just because the agreement for rental prohibits cultic activity.

Back from Pilgrimage, Conference Soon

St. Benedict Center’s pilgrims arrived back late last night after another wonderful and grace-filled pilgrimage to Auriesville, New York. Three priests: one Franciscan (FI), one Oblate of the Virgin Mary (OMV), and one member of the Institute of Christ the King, accompanied the pilgrims on our annual journey from the Lake of the Blessed Sacrament (Lake George) to Auriesville. Next on our agenda is the … More →

Pilgrims, Ho!

We’re on the way out of the door — headed to the Pilgrimage for Restoration. The site will be updated by staff while we’re away, but site moderation will probably not occur until next week, as the moderator will be on pilgrimage (no WiFi in the tent). We will keep all our friends and benefactors in our prayers during the pilgrimage, and we ask you … More →

Doctrinal Implications of (Possible) SSPX Rapprochement [Updated]

Catholic World News is drawing attention to the report of a respected French vaticanologist that the Holy See is “close to an agreement with the Society of St. Pius X (SSPX).” When Phil Lawler puts a question mark at the end of a headline, as he does in this instance — “Vatican, SSPX close to agreement?” — he indicates that the report is based on … More →

A Kinder, Gentler Maccabee

Far be it from me to question Abraham Foxman’s right to complain about Mel Gibson’s latest film venture. This is something he has every right to do. In fact, it’s how he makes his living. But he might like to have a logician check out his press releases first: [W]e do not argue with Mel Gibson’s right to make this film.
